It’s always fun to get collectibles and other paraphernalia dedicated to some of your favorite things, like FUNKO Pops & collectibles. In the case of me and my youngest daughter, one of our favorite games to play is Fortnite, so we were definitely intrigued by this unlicensed RQGPX 3D Lamp Illusion.
In the box, you get three Fortnite-themed figure toppers, light-up base that takes three AA batteries (not included) or can be powered by the included microUSB cable, remote control, and a simple instruction sheet.
Setup is straightforward. Peel off the protective backing on the three figures, place your figure of choice in the base, power on the base, and choose your light color by tapping the flat button on the base. You can also use the included remote, but even though mine already had the CR 2025 button cell battery in it, I couldn’t get it to control the base. It also didn’t work when I put in a fresh battery, so I have no idea if the included remote even works.
Besides the remote issue, as is typical for this type of protective sticker on cut acrylic, it was kind of a pain to remove the backing. Once I found an edge, I was able to peel each backing off easy enough, but it was definitely a hassle.
In operation, the lighting is bright and fills each character’s lines in nicely. You can switch between seven solid or flashing colors (as well as white) using the button on the base. Presumably, with the remote, you can change brightness levels as well, but again, mine didn’t work.
Despite being an unlicensed product, the overall quality of the base toppers is actually quite good. The lighting itself is bright and reacts well with the acrylic toppers. However, my remote control has never worked, making it tough to recommend at anywhere near its relatively high regular price given the roughly 8 and a half inch tall height.
