Review: Amerous 15'' Wooden Chess Set
Amerous has worked hard on making this 15″ wooden chess set with weighted pieces a premium experience for a surprisingly low price. For the most part, they’ve succeeded.
In the fancy box you get the folding board, a full set of weighted pieces along with two extra queens, chess playing instructions, an Amerous postcard, maintenance instructions, and a warranty and support card. The pieces themselves nestle nicely inside the fitted black interior with a felt-like substance. Unfortunately, this felt-like interior leaves a black, dusty residue on the pieces, marring an otherwise premium presentation and overall experience.
The weighted pieces themselves are well carved and easy to identify. The ornate styling on the sides of the unfolded board looks nice and the top of the board has properly-aligned letters and numbers, something that’s too often not the case with other chess sets, particularly folding ones.
At the price point this chess set is at, it’s hard to find too much fault. It unfolds to a large size and the playing pieces are excellent. It’s just a shame that the interior material for the playing piece storage was such a poor production choice.
