The Astrohaus team unveiled the Freewriter Wordrunner keyboard at CES yesterday. It’s coming to Kickstarter soon, and, for those interested, can be reserved for $1 for extra special pricing. If you don’t want to pay the $1, you can also just sign up to be notified when it hits Kickstarter.
This is a good move by Astrohaus as the distraction-free space is incredibly competitive, with many options available now, as well as coming soon. While there’s nothing really distraction-free about this keyboard, the fact that it has an onboard word counter and timer means it can be a nice productivity tool, regardless of your preferred platform or software.
I’ve owned, and own, all of the previous Astrohaus distraction-free writing devices. They’re generally very good, and I’ve always considered the mechanical keyboard on the flagship Smart Typewriter to feature a superb typing experience. It makes me think that this mechanical keyboard, despite the plethora of superb mechanical keyboard options out there, could still be a standout.
